Is A-Level Physics harder than IGCSE Physics?
Yes — significantly. A-Level Physics introduces calculus-based reasoning, more abstract field theory, and much harder mathematical problem-solving. Students moving from IGCSE Extended grade 7+ will still find the AS year a major step up. Does my child need strong maths to do well in A-Level Physics?
Yes — A-Level Physics requires simultaneous A-Level Maths knowledge, particularly differentiation, integration, logarithms, and trigonometry. Students taking Physics without Maths (rare in Dubai schools) will find it significantly harder. What are the most frequently failed topics in A-Level Physics?
Electric and gravitational fields (combining conceptual understanding with complex equations), capacitor charge/discharge, and SHM are the most commonly failed topics. Should my child do A-Level Physics or IB Physics HL?
A-Level Physics (particularly CIE) is generally considered more mathematical and calculation-intensive. IB Physics HL has a broader conceptual scope and includes the Internal Assessment.
